Coates House is a beautiful country house dating back to the 1780’s and is situated on the east coast of Scotland, one hour from Edinburgh and close to St Andrews, the home of golf and one of the world’s oldest universities.
The house itself is in a remarkable position with panoramic views across the Firth of Forth to hills some 50 miles away. It is close to the sea and the lovely seaside village of Elie. The owners have lived there since 1991 and during that time have completely refurbished both house and garden. It is decorated in a very comfortable style. There are five guest rooms (three doubles and two twins) which comfortably sleeps up to ten, three bathrooms and two half-bathrooms, a large sitting room, cosy music room and a big, modern open-plan kitchen as well as various other rooms (TV, games, utility, study etc). The property has everything you need including satellite TV (internet-enabled with Netflix access etc) and fast wi-fi.
The garden has been lovingly developed over the last two decades and makes a great setting for the house. There are various ‘rooms’ within the garden and plenty of spots to sit and pass the time, including a summerhouse/gazebo in the Cape Cod style. There are a table and chairs on the terrace with a Weber gas grill. For families, there is a full-sized trampoline, climbing frames and a swing set for younger children, an adult swing, freshly refurbished hard tennis court and extras like a zip-wire in the woods.
The property has a lovely and reliable caretaker who looks after the house and garden.
Historic St Andrews is the local town and there are great restaurants to choose from. With both the University and the golf, it is a very lively place. The local coastal villages of Elie, St Monans, Pittenweem, Anstruther and Crail are all very charming. For those needing a diversion from the golf, there is a huge amount to do in the immediate area including sightseeing, biking, walking and hiking, fishing and birdwatching. Bikes are easily rented in nearby St Andrews.
